Strategy & Portfolio Director

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Main Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting to the CEO, and working closely with colleagues across the leadership team, this role will require best-in-class strategic and operational skills. You will be a significant contributor to the development of strategy for building Carrick Therapeutics’ portfolio and will serve as the focal point of project management and co-ordination. In particular, for each acquisition project and development programme you will:

  • Define the objectives, ensuring appropriate engagement with all relevant stakeholders
  • Provide a continuous project management overview that ensures:
    • Delivery of each project on time and within budget
    • Appropriate resource availability and allocation of budget
    • Tracking and internal reporting on progress and budget variation
    • Application of metrics for risk management and probability of success
    • Creation and maintenance of comprehensive project documentation
    • Oversight and project leadership of the finances and resources of the projects
  • Provide knowledge of and insight into the commercial landscape within oncology; positioning the Carrick Therapeutics portfolio for maximum commercial success
  • Develop target product profiles for each asset under development, evaluating the market potential, in the context of competitors, and including price and reimbursement strategies
  • In collaboration with the Head of Corporate Business Development and the scientific and medical teams provide a target list of molecules to add to the Carrick Therapeutics portfolio
  • Lead due diligence investigations summarizing commercial and scientific opportunities and challenges
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the evolving objectives, ambitions and science behind the Carrick Therapeutics portfolio
  • Support the CEO in developing and adapting the commercial strategy and presenting such to the Board of Carrick Therapeutics
  • Provide timely and relevant inputs to presentation materials required for the CEO’s management of stakeholders and press releases

Position Requirements

The Strategy & Portfolio Director should have a profile that is close to the following characteristics:

  • An appropriate life sciences degree, accompanied by either an MBA or a PhD
  • Substantial experience of commercial leadership roles in the life sciences sector, with a strong focus in oncology. Ideally this will combine experience of best practices from larger organisations with exposure to smaller, more entrepreneurial businesses
  • Evidence of significant career achievements; demonstrable in either a commercial “deal sheet” or a project leadership setting
  • Highly developed team working skills; an ability to lead through negotiation, influence and effective communication and the ability to engage others around common business goals
  • High energy, commitment and the willingness to align to the values of the business
  • The ability to combine a degree of entrepreneurial flair, a flexibility of mindset and work style, and the ability to inject structure and discipline into project management in a way that will enable Carrick Therapeutics to achieve its ambitious growth objectives whilst building a strong and sustainable business
  • The ability to work closely with the CEO, in a symbiotic and mutually supportive fashion that plays to each other’s strengths
